A little bit about me...

I am a third generation teacher. My grandfather taught in a one room school house in Pennsylvania, my mother taught in elementary and middle schools in Pennsylvania and I have taught in middle schools in West Virginia and Venice, Florida. I love to travel and read. Since reading is much more economical, I read about a place until I can actually travel there. My best trips were to Scotland and Egypt. Teaching reading has always been my favorite part of teaching, so I became endorsed in reading and earned my National Board Certification in the area of Literacy: Reading-Language Arts/Early and Middle Childhoood. When I have free time you can usually find me with a book by one of my favorite authors like Cathy Marie Hake or Lori Wick, trying to convince my cat that there are other places to lie down besides my book.

Our current topic of study is the elements of fiction, specifically plot development , character development and setting.

The standing homework for my class is to read for twenty to thirty minutes every night.  Students should select a  novel they enjoy.  As any athletic coach will tell you, they only way to get good at something is to practice, practice and then practice some more.   If you have time to ask them to summarize what they read that really helps.

POWER WORDS   are coming soon, be sure to watch agendas for the new words.
